Joseph Allen Underwood Sr.

March 20, 1943 — December 12, 2014

Joseph Allen Underwood Sr., 71, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went into a peaceful sleep at home surrounded by his wife, children and their spouses on Friday (December 12, 2014). He was born March 20, 1943, son of the late Josiah Underwood and Myrtle (Eggers) Underwood. In life, he enjoyed fishing, camping with his grandkids, and most of all, riding his Trike with the love of his life, Martha. His last promise was to find a pond in Heaven and wait there for her. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon Russell and Harvey; three sisters, Shirley Cutlip, Patricia Stanley, and baby girl Underwood; and an infant great-granddaughter, Claudia Ann Cooper. He is survived by his devoted wife of forty-nine years, Martha (Unrue) Underwood of Byesville; a daughter, Lisa Ann Cooper (Troy Peterson) of Cambridge; two sons, Joseph A. (D'Anne) Underwood Jr. of Cumberland and Brian Joseph (Teresa) Underwood of Byesville; five grandchildren, Roy Cooper of Cambridge, Joseph A. Underwood III of Cumberland, Heather Murray of Old Washington, Bryan M. Wooten of Cambridge, and Glenn Davis III of Cambridge; four great-grandchildren, Gage Matthew Cooper of Covington, Elyssia May Cooper of Covington, Kayleigh Wooten of Cambridge, and Kali-Anne Murray of Old Washington; a sister, Mary Ellen Rucker of Tampa FL; a brother, Howard (Christy) Underwood of Byesville; and many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Joe's wishes, there will be no services. Honoring his love of his Cherokee lineage, he will be taken once more to his village in North Carolina.
