Joseph L. Wells

Joseph L. "Joe" Wells, 76, of Cambridge, died Sunday (August 29, 2010) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born June 25, 1934 in Franklin County, son of the late Joseph Lichwar and Lucille Wells. Mr. Wells was a truck driver for Besl Transport. He was Catholic by faith. Mr. Wells was a US Army veteran, having served in the 505th Parachute Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was a member of the Cambridge American Legion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, William "Joey" Wells; and a brother, Gayle Rossiter. He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Merritt) Wells, whom he married August 16, 1959; two sons, Command Sgt. Major Robert (& Ann) Wells of Ft. Leonard Wood MO and Dr. Donald (& Heather) Wells of Sandy, OR; a daughter, Susan (& Dr. Frank) Maximo of Cambridge; six grandchildren, Audrey (& Corey) Keglovitz, Christopher Maximo, Andrew Maximo, Lauren Maximo, Lindsay Wells and Anderson Wells; a great-grandson, Robert Keglovitz; a brother-in-law, Tom Merritt (and Cecelia Ravak) of Florida; a sister-in-law, Jackie Merritt of Cambridge; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Family and friends may call on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Thursday (September 2, 2010) at 11 a.m. with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, with military graveside honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
