Joyce Ann Bates

Joyce Ann Bates, 87, of Cambridge, died Friday (February 5, 2021) at Southeastern Med.

She was born January 12, 1934 in Cambridge, daughter of the late William W. Bates Sr. and Lillian Eileen (Rochester) Bates.

Miss Bates retired after forty-two years at Bank One as a customer service representative.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, as well as singing in the choir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Wallace Bates and Bruce Bryson Bates; a sister, Mary Alice Young; a nephew, Peter Young; and a niece, Penny Young.

She is survived by her nephews, Tony L. Young Sr. of Alabama, William W. "Wally" Bates of Old Washington, Timothy P. Bates of Cambridge, and Brice Miller-Bates of Canton; a niece, Angela Draper of Cambridge; her grand-nephews, Shawn Young of Cambridge (whom she raised), Tony Young of Cambridge, Bricen Bates of Old Washington, Brendan Bates of Old Washington, Robert Bates of Old Washington, and Brandon Miller of Old Washington; her grand-nieces, Heidi Young, Stephanie Young, and Celia Bates; a great-grand-nephew, Kyle Young; her great-grand-nieces, Kaelynne Young, Shayla Price, and Jenna Young; a step-grand-nephew, Trevor Israel; a step-great-grand-nephew, McKensie Freeman; and numerous cousins.

Private services will be held for the family.  Private burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, at a later date.
