Joyce Y. (French) Cox, 81, of Cambridge, slipped from this world surrounded by her loving family (September 5, 2018) at the Cambridge Care & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born January 31, 1937 in Granite City, IL, and was the daughter of the late George Provine and Velba Geraldine (Sullivan) French.
She was a lover of all things family. A giver of unsolicited advice. A social butterfly as any stranger was her friend. Baker of the best berry pies. The Queen of singing off key and out of tune. Teller of tall tales.....though some of them we might come to find out later are actually true (like that time she went fishing with grandpa and caught a whale). Parts of us were made by her and she will live forever in us.
Mrs. Cox was a homemaker, and Christian by faith. She was a member of the Eagles and VFW Ladies Aux. in Cambridge.
In addition to her parents Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Paul Silas Cox; one daughter, Louann "Annie" Barton; one sister, Joanna; and two brothers, Leslie and Raymond French.
She is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Robert) Owens of Little Rock, Arkansas, Tamara (Steve) Kasper of Salem, VA, and Tracie (Shawn McElroy) Cox of Cambridge; one brother, Harold (Jeannie) Shockley of Alabama; one sister, Dot Richert of South Roxanna, IL; eight grandchildren, Joe, Olivia "Boogie Man", Cassie, Zack "Zack Attack", Kayla, Harley "Butcher Kid", Edward and James; two great grandchildren, Justin and Lisa; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Tuesday (Sept. 11 th ) from 5-9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Evang. Mark Beros officiating. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Newcomerstown.
