Jules Eugene Canel

October 15, 1944 — May 6, 2021

Jules Eugene Canel, 76, of Quaker City, died Thursday (May 6, 2021) at Southeastern Med, Cambridge.

He was born October 15, 1944, son of the late Jules Canel and Mary Edith (Oakley) Canel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Ann Long; and a brother-in-law, Frank Clifford Alwine.

Eugene was a 1962 graduate of Quaker City High School, enlisted in the Navy in 1965, and then graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Training Center in 1966.

He worked as a data systems technician, repairing computers for the banking industry, all along the east coast.

After leaving the Navy in 1971, Eugene moved to California in 1972, and worked as an electrical engineer for Ampex. He then became the VP of engineering for American International Devices, retiring after twenty-five years of service, and later assisting as a consultant.

Eugene patented the 'JBUS' while at American International, which allowed two computers to talk to each other.

He loved to travel, in either a motorcycle or an RV, and cherished the time spent traveling with his grandchildren.

Mr. Canel is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Janice Irene (Alwine) Canel of the home, whom he married on May 15, 1966; a son, Travis (Michelle) Canel of Granada Hills CA; a daughter, Kim Canel-Bell of Garden Grove CA; five grandchildren, Megan, Cody and Ashlyn Canel and Corey and Emily Bell; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Davis and Leota Alwine; a brother-in-law, Bud Long; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
