***SERVICES RESCHEDULED*** Family and friends may call on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Tuesday (March 11, 2008) at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Jules Canel, 93, of Zanesville, died Wednesday (March 5, 2008) at the Cedar Hill Health Care Center, Zanesville. He was born on December 19, 1914 in St. David IL, son of the late Michael Canel and Angie (Vicart) Canel. Mr. Canel was a school bus driver for eighteen years with the Zane Trace Local School District. He retired after thirty years as the custodian at the Quaker City National Bank. He also had worked at the Eberle Funeral Home. Mr. Canel was a volunteer fireman and a former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He was a former superintendent of Friends Cemetery. Mr. Canel was well-known in the area as a float builder for the Ohio Hills Folk Festival. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Omer, Mitchell, Ancel, Abel, Amil and Paul; and four sisters, Rose, Angele, Virginia and Doris. He leaves his wife, Mary Edith (Oakley) Canel, whom he married on March 23, 1937; a son, Jules Eugene (& Janice Irene) Canel of Quaker City and Granada Hill CA; a daughter, Margaret (& Francis "Bud" Henry) Long of Zanesville; a sister, Naomi Walker of Mt. Pleasant MI; four grandchildren, Brenda Kay (& Shawon) Glaub of Zanesville, Gayle Renee (& Michael) Delozier of Zanesville, Travis Jules (& Michelle) Canel of California and Kimberly Irene (& Mark) Bell of California; ten great-grandchildren, Jules Anthony Brassfield, Mason Kehl Brassfield, Tucker Gage Brassfield, Haylie Nicole Delozier, Nathan Michael Delozier, Cody Jules Canel, Emily Irene Bell, Cory David Bell, Megan Maxine Canel and Ashlyn Leigh Canel; and a step-granddaughter, Alexis Nicoli Glaub. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
