Kenneth Roy Shugert, lifetime farmer, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2025. Ken was born on January 19, 1941, in Cambridge, Ohio, to the late Roy and Wilda (Robinson) Shugert. Ken married Sandra K. (Marks) Shugert, in Cambridge on February 10, 1962, and they enjoyed a lifetime together of raising their family on the farm.
Ken was a 1958 graduate of Old Washington High School. He enjoyed hunting, and playing basketball, as well as many other sports. Ken loved watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He loved farming and dedicated his life to it. Along with being a farmer, Ken took on many other positions in the community including: a member of the Madison Young Farmers, director of Rolling Hills Landmark, served on Farmers Home Administration Board from 1968-1970, was township chairman on the Agricultural Stabilization Service Committee, Director of the Mid-States Wool Growers Cooperative, and a trustee for the Guernsey Memorial Hospital Corporation, along with numerous other activities. Ken was a member of Old Washington UMC.
In addition to his parents, Ken is preceded in death by his brother, Dean Shugart, and his sister, Marie Hartman.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, of more than 62 years and his six children: Susan (Greg Garrett) Green of Pickerington; Diane (Tim) Lund of Montrose, Colorado; Bobby (Becky) Shugert of Flushing; Brenda (Tim Gray) Pontius of Salesville; Mary (Troy) Keith of Cambridge; and Dwight Shugert of Lore City; his two sisters, Elsie McVicker of Mansfield and Martha (Dean) Shriver of Buffalo. Ken was a proud grandfather to 15 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was an uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a great friend to many.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025, from 10AM-12PM at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with the service to immediately follow with Pastor Rodney King officiating. Private burial will follow at Old Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Old Washington Fire Department Building Committee, P.O. Box 205, Old Washington, Ohio 43768.
