Larry Dean Mallett

June 7, 1947 — August 26, 2011

Larry Dean Mallett, 64, of Salesville, passed away Friday evening (Aug. 26, 2011) at his home surrounded by his family. That's the way he always hoped it would be. He was the youngest of five children born to Paul and Tillie (Thompson) Mallett on June 7, 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-grandson, Jordan Michael Hickman; and his four-legged companion, Frankie. He leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Cathy (Watson) Mallett. He leaves one brother, Duryl (Sue) Mallett of Cambridge; three sisters, Esther (Herbert) Carpenter of Quaker City, Donna Randles of Zanesville and Ruth (Hugh) Hastings of Grove City. He was the proud father of six children, Stacey (Randy) Spratt of Quaker City, Jay (Kim) Mallett of Pleasant City, Adam (Patti) Mallett of Sarahsville, Dean (Liz) Mallett of New Concord, Dan (P.J.) Mallett of Salesville, Dawna (Joe) Clift of Caldwell; and one stepson, Michael Roe of Nelsonville; 11 grandchildren, with one on the way; two great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews whom he cared about deeply. His in-laws are Bill and Frances Watson of Salesville. Larry was a 1965 graduate of Shenandoah High School. In his early years, he worked for Allied Enterprises before taking a job with the cable company in Zanesville. He worked there under various company names and eventually retired from Time Warner after 35 years. He was employed by Wayne Township for the large part of his life and was a partner in G & L Satellites for many years with his dear friend, Gary Dollison. He worked for Muffett Home Builders with George Muffett whom he considered to be a brother. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and early morning trips to Quaker City to "SHOOT THE BREEZE" with his many friends. He spent many days with Jerry Dale and Tammy Lippert, whom he considered to be our extended family. Larry enjoyed helping others and whatever he owned belonged to his friends and family as well. If you knew Larry, then you were surely touched by one of his stories. Story-telling was one of his favorite pastimes. His greatest hours were spent outdoors and Cathy and the children made sure that was where he was until his last breath. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Thorn-Black Funeral Home, 291 Pike St., Quaker City, and services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday (August 31, 2011) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Lee and Anthony Potochnik officiating. Burial will follow in the Friends Cemetery, Quaker City.
