Laura Evalena (Carpenter) Gibson of Quaker City, died peacefully in the arms of family Wednesday (January 28, 2015) at Emerald Pointe in Barnesville, aged 110 years and 11 days. Born January 17, 1905 near Calais, she was the daughter of Silas and Charlotte (Dailey) Carpenter. She lived a long and productive life growing up and starting married life on the farm before moving to Quaker City in 1940. She was married with children before ever living in a house with indoor plumbing, electricity, or telephone. Laura worked at the local cigar factory, as well as Broughton's Dairy and Quaker City Post Office. She delivered her three children at home without a doctor. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, James Carpenter and Clyde Gibson; three children, Geneva (& Don) Bewley, Iona (& Robert) Bundy and Ray Dempsey Carpenter; one grandson, Michael Bewley; and one great-grandson, Kevin Bundy. She is survived by four grandchildren, Donna (& Bill) Armstrong of Quaker City, Robert (& Jan) Bundy of California, Gary (& Debi) Bundy of Texas, and Bruce (& Vicky) Bundy of Columbus; eight great-grandchildren, Vanessa French, Drew French, Angie Armstrong, Kimberly (& Greg) Forshey, Amy (& Randy) Tucker, Jason Bundy, Kristen Bundy (& Chris) Stedman, and Sara Bundy (& James) Armstrong; and six great-great-grandchildren, Cole, Caden, Brooke, Cooper, Ella, and Sam. The family would like to thank the staff at Emerald Pointe Nursing Home in Barnesville and Hospice of Guernsey for many years of wonderful loving care. Visitation will be held Tuesday (February 3, 2015) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Jim McConnell officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. Following the services, a luncheon will be held at the Quaker City United Methodist Church.
