Lawrence Eugene Hatcher, 76, of Freeport, died Friday (February 5, 2010) at the Valley Hospice Care Center at Trinity East Hospital, Steubenville. He was born July 31, 1933 in Quaker City, son of the late Lawrence Edgar Hatcher and Sarah D. (Phillips) Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher worked for thirty years as a truck driver for Local #92 in Canton. He was a US Army veteran. He attended Brownsville Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Mary Irene (Anderson) Hatcher of the home, whom he married November 1, 1984; two sons, John (& Margaret) Hatcher of Barnesville and Dan (& Sara) Hatcher of Somerton; a daughter, Sandra Wadsworth of Minerva; a step-son, Wayne Pipher of Louisville; five step-daughters, Marlene Pipher of Uhrichsville, Shirley (& Scott) Fair of Freeport, Donna Pipher of Uhrichsville, Karen Schuman and Brenda Pipher both of Hot Springs AR; two brothers, Vernon (& Connie) Hatcher of Columbus and David (& Karen) Hatcher of Roseville MI; nineteen grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Monday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held Tuesday (February 9, 2010) at 11 a.m. with Minister Tom Hess officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
