Leslie P. Gibson, 87, of Indian Camp, died unexpectedly Thursday evening (January 29, 2009) at his home. He was born on November 6, 1921 in Cambridge, son of the late Luccock Gibson and Mary (Adams) Gibson. Mr. Gibson retired from Columbia Gas, where he worked for thirty years as an inspector. He was a member of the Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Church, where he was also a former trustee. Mr. Gibson was a fifty-year member of the Indian Camp Grange # 1424. He was also a member of the American Legion of Cambridge. He farmed for many years, raising Black Angus cattle. He was a graduate of Brown High School. Mr. Gibson was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lorain Gibson. He is survived by his wife, Ethel Mae (Kenworthy) Gibson of the home, whom he married on July 2, 1949; a son, Jim (& Kathy) Gibson of Indian Camp; a daughter, Joan (& Robert) Howell of Indian Camp; three grandsons, Benjamen, Matthew and Paul Gibson; and four nieces & nephews, Glen (& Lorna) Gibson of Indian Camp, Barbara Taylor of Indian Camp, Larry Gibson of Cambridge and Judy (& Jay) Wells of Sacramento CA. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, and also on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be held on Sunday (February 1, 2009) at 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, with Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hermon Presbyterian Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
