Lina J. Ryan, 75, of Cambridge, died Wednesday (November 12, 2014) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. She was born August 31, 1939 in Youngstown, daughter of the late Harry VanValkenburg and Gladys (Lake) VanValkenburg-Hutchinson. For her first three years of life she lived in Girard, but then moved to Cambridge where she became a life-long resident. Ms. Ryan retired from the Cambridge Developmental Center, where she had been a therapeutic program worker for many years. She was Catholic by faith and a member of Christ Our Light Parish. She also attended many local churches. She was a woman of profound faith who enjoyed writing religious poetry. Ms. Ryan was a member of Catholic Daughters. She was a patron of the performing arts and a "Red Hat Lady". She volunteered with the Hopalong Cassidy Festival and was an active member of the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed day trips and tourism to many different locations. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved nephew, Mike Brislen. She is survived by three sons, Jeffery (& Ruth) Ryan, Tracey (& Aldia) Ryan, and C. Bruce Ryan (& Jerry Shaver). Also surviving are her granddaughter, Alissa Ryan and her sons, Brandon and Zander; granddaughter, Sonya Kessler and her son, Christian, and her daughters, Aleah and Autumn; granddaughter, Latrista (& Mike) Rodeheaver and their sons, Caden, Gavin, Keagan, and Emmett; grandson, Josh (& Linsey) Ryan and their son, Jacob Ryan; grandson, Clancey Ryan; granddaughter, Emylli Biddix; her sister, Alice Faye Brislen; and a niece, Mary Ann (& Gary) Lucas and their four daughters and their children. Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Monday (November 17, 2014) at 11 a.m. with Father Paul Hrezo officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge.
