Linza R. Stephen, 82, of Quaker City, died Tuesday (December 1, 2009) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born October 16, 1927 in Calais, oldest son of the late Alex Stephen and Elma J. (Gallagher) Stephen. Mr. Stephen was a retired teamster for Hi-Way Paving. He was a long-time member of the Teamsters. He was also a life-long farmer. He was a life member of the Batesville American Legion #578 and the Barnesville VFW Post #2792. Mr. Stephen was a US Army veteran, having served during the Korean War. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Stephen and Dale Stephen; a sister, Ada Riemenschneider; and an infant sibling. He is survived by his wife, Viola (Uppole) Stephen of the home, whom he married on March 31, 1951; three daughters, Phyllis (& Ralph) Adkins of Calais, Sandy Stephen of Woodsfield and Shiela (& Tim) Lasko of Quaker City; two sisters, Mona J. DeLong of Salesville and Verda (& Jim) Kaiser of Strasburg; two grandchildren, Courtney Rae Lasko and Trent Lasko; three step-grandchildren, Steve Adkins, Lori Adkins and Beth Adkins; two step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Delores Stephen of Fredericktown and Shirley Stephen of Caldwell. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held on Friday (December 4, 2009) at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
