Lloyd A. Feldner Sr., 63, of Cambridge, died Sunday (November 14, 2010) at his home. He was born October 23, 1947 in Noble County, the third child to Cleo (Thompson) Feldner and the late Chester Feldner, who died in 1998. Lloyd served in the US Army with a tour of duty in Can Tho Vietnam from 1969-1970, moving throughout Vietnam with the 213th Engineering Detachment. While in the military, he earned his Machinist Certification, Expert Marksmen Medals for M14 and M16 rifles, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was a member of the Cambridge American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans of Cambridge. He was diagnosed July 4, 2008 with Glioblastoma Grade 4 Multiform, a very aggressive and debilitating form of brain cancer. Lloyd fought a very courageous 26-month battle against this illness at his home with care from his loved ones. Hospice of Guernsey Inc. provided support for Lloyd and his family the final two weeks of his life. Lloyd loved his family and fondly remembered traveling, fishing, hunting, and farming with the love of his life, Sheila, as well as with his children and grandchildren. He was a Roman Catholic and attended church faithfully with his family until recently. As a member of Christ Our Light Parish Cambridge, his Christianity was evident in being chosen a Godfather for five special Godchildren, Jeff Archer, Penny Schell, Jessica Wheeler, Patricia Duffey, and Matt McClain. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Emalene Scheich in 2001; three brothers, Jeffery in 2001, Gail in 2008, and Gene in 1958; paternal grandparents, Charles (Mary Murray) Feldner; maternal grandparents, John (Theresa Ritterbeck) Thompson; and Godparents, Harry "Doc" and Agnes Thompson. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Sheila, whom he married January 9, 1971; two daughters, Theresa and Grace of Cambridge; two sons, Lloyd Jr. (Carla) and Adam of Cambridge; a very special granddaughter whom he was proud that she called him "Dad", Laken; three grandsons, Nathan and Matt of Cambridge, and Zach of Barnesville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Also surviving are his mother, Cleo; two brothers, Norman (Jackie) Feldner and Laverne (Belinda) Feldner; two sisters-in-law, Gertie Dickey and Donna J. Feldner; two brothers-in-law, Paul (Pam) Withers Jr. and Ken Scheich; and a paternal aunt, Violet (Ken) Lunsford all of Caldwell. Family and friends may call on Tuesday (November 16, 2010) from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where a Christian wake service will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. A private mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Christ Our Light Parish, Cambridge, for family and close friends with Father Robert Borer officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to one of Lloyd's favorite charities: 1) St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105; 2) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725; or 3) St. Benedict School, c/o 701 Gomber Ave, Cambridge OH 43725. Lloyd prepared this obituary prior to his passing during a pre-planning session according to his own wishes.
