Lois M. Bates, 85, of Quaker City, died Thursday (February 26, 2009) at the Barnesville Hospital. She was born on September 21, 1923 in Beaver Township/Noble County, daughter of the late Edgar Douglass and Edna (Watson) Douglass. Mrs. Bates was a seamstress for thirty years with Barnesville Manufacturing. She was a member of Beaver Valley Garden Club and the VFW Auxiliary of Barnesville. She was a 1941 graduate of Batesville High School. Mrs. Bates was a member of the Boston Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Bates, who died on July 24, 1991. They were married on June 14, 1941. Also deceased are a brother, Thomas Douglass; and a sister, Clarice McVicker. She is survived by a son, Steve (& Janet) Bates of Quaker City; a daughter, Jacqueline Tracy of Quaker City; six grandchildren, Kevin (& Karla) Tracy, Melanie (& Jeff) Bates, Angela (& Tom) Cunningham, Carrie (& Jason) Spruill, Megan Bates and Ryan Bates; a sister-in-law, Betty Douglass of Cambridge; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Monday (March 2, 2009) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Brian Bee officiating. Burial will be at Batesville Cemetery.
