Luella K. Carpenter, 84, of Quaker City died Thursday (April 25, 2013) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. She was born July 29, 1928 in Noble County, daughter of the late Charles C. Betts and Mary N. (Neuhart) Betts-Boles. Mrs. Carpenter was the owner of Luella's Beauty Shop, where she had also worked as a beautician for many years. She also had worked as a cook at the former Quaker City Elementary School. She was a 1946 graduate of Quaker City High School. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Central Christian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Betts. She is survived by her loving husband, James U. "Peanut" Carpenter, whom she married on June 1, 1951; two sons, Philip (& Sue) Carpenter of Quaker City and Brent (& Sherrie) Carpenter of Quaker City; seven grandchildren, Jaime (& Jeffery) Denney, Darin (& Julie) Carpenter, Joshua Carpenter, Brian Carpenter, Jamie Carpenter, Evan Carpenter, and Tyson Carpenter; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Denney, Jaden Denney, Bria Carpenter, and Cameron Weaver; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where funeral services will be held on Monday (April 29, 2013) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City. As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Luella's name to the Central Christian Church, PO Box 460, Quaker City OH 43773.
