Marian Ruth Pontius

Marian Ruth (Markee) Pontius, 86, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, March 27, 2023, at her home.

Marian was born on April 12, 1936, in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Harlan and Virgie (Albaugh) Markee.

She was a 1953 graduate of Old Washington High School. Marian retired from NCR and was a lifelong homemaker. She loved her dogs, gardening, mowing, spending time with grandkids, going to the track for horse and dog races, and she loved cooking and baking pies. Marian attended Middleburn Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Eugene Pontius, whom she married on September 18, 1955, and passed away on November 1, 2021, one sister, Ina Mae Burgess, brother-in-law, Carl Burgess, and brother-in-law, Wells Collins.

Marian is survived by her daughter, Marsha (Mark) Roberts of Cumberland, her sister, Martha Collins of New Concord, her two grandchildren, Joseph (Abby) Roberts of Cumberland, and Chelsey (Rhett) Brown of Cumberland, her great grandsons, Caiden and Cale Roberts, her great granddaughter, Camryn Roberts, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Friday, March 31, 2023, from 11AM-1PM with the service to immediately follow at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Burial will be held at Guernsey Memory Gardens.
