Martha Ann Conrad

June 4, 1958 — May 12, 2020

Martha Ann Conrad (née Shaw) was born June 4, 1958 in Great Falls, Montana and passed away at home on May 12, 2020 in DeSoto, TX. She graduated from Cambridge High School in 1976. She married Jeff Conrad in 1977 at Stop Nine Church of Christ in Byesville, OH. Martha and Jeff attended Williamstown Bible College in West Virginia before starting their family. She and Jeff were married for forty-two years, and they had six children together: Sarah, Rachel, Rebekah, Leah, Jonathan, and Aaron.

Martha was very proud to be a full-time mom, foster mom, and minister's wife. She got early practice being a caregiver with her sister, "Missy," who she called her "baby," for whom she prayed and prayed. She was committed to the spiritual education of innumerable generations of 2-year-olds who passed through her weekly Sunday school classes. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren, whom she showered with constant gifts. She spent her last days caring for her youngest granddaughter, Hadley "The Radley."

Martha believed strongly in the Christian message of love, which she demonstrated through her behind-the-scenes work at Grace Place's various ministries. One of her favorite verses was I John 4:7-8 "Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love, does not know God, because God is love."

Martha was an avid fan of science fiction and fantasy films, never failing to observe "May the Fourth." One of her favorite pastimes was watching and discussing classic television shows. Those close to her knew that she spent her summers swimming in her beloved pool. She loved to sing, so much so that when she visited different churches, local members would complement her strong alto harmonies. Martha inherited a love of Christmas from her parents and sister. Christmas was her favorite holiday; decorating the tree with new ornaments, as well as memories from the past, was a highlight.

Martha is survived by her husband Jeff, sister Melissa Scott and family, five children, and six grandchildren: Samuel, Sergio, Kayla, Rosalín, Michael, and Hadley. She was preceded in death by her brother Michael Shaw; her son Jonathan Conrad; her father George Shaw; and her mother, Wilma Shaw (née Clary), among other beloved family members.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to Grace Place Children's Playground, Text Giving Line: 972-435-7226 (Keyword: Playground) or P.O. Box 382000, Duncanville, TX 75138.
