Martha O. Simpson

April 20, 1925 — March 18, 2017

Martha O. Simpson, 91, of Cambridge, died Saturday (March 18, 2017) at Greystone Health & Rehabilitation Center, Cambridge. She was born April 20, 1925 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Ira F. Oldham and Della (Banker) Oldham. Mrs. Simpson retired after forty-three years as an employee of the former Bank One, where she was a receptionist and oversaw the tellers & the daily scheduling for several years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge and served terms on the Board of Deacons.  She was a member of the Alpha Omega Circle of the church and was past president of the Women's Association.  Shortly after retiring, she served as a church enabler with Nancy Fletcher for the New Philadelphia Presbytery. Mrs. Simpson was a long-time member of Wing 12 Auxiliary and was the 2009 Auxiliary member of the year. She has been recognized for her fund raising efforts on behalf of the "Wonderland of Trees" and the "Daffodil Luncheon" events. Mrs. Simpson was a fifty-year member of the Guernsey County Cancer Society and an active volunteer for the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center.  She was also a member and volunteer at the Guernsey County Senior Center. She was a member of the Guernsey Historical Society and the Local AARP chapter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Needham, who died in 1961; her second husband, James W. Simpson; and an infant son, Larry Eugene Needham. She is survived by a step-daughter, Carolyn (Barry) Chisholm of Vero Beach FL; her second cousins, Paul R. (Susan) Willis of Columbus, Robert (Judy) Willis of Columbus, Jean Anne (Reid) Wurtzbacher of Valley Grove PA, Patricia (Don) Wright, James (& Mary) Van Horn, Barbara Van Horn, Mary Mason Doench, Jim Mason, Martha Mason Ruppert, and Marjorie Mason Braden; three step-grandchildren, Bryan Chisholm, Kevan Chisholm, and Keith Chisholm all of Vero Beach FL; and her special friends, Leeanna and Steve Lowe, and Don Smith. Visitation will be held Saturday (March 25, 2017) from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor Mike Seely officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Martha's name be made to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
