Mary Ella Christman, 67, of Lafferty, passed away Friday (January 15, 2010) unexpectedly at her home. She was born March 12, 1942, in Quaker City, daughter of the late Casey and Zela Mae (Lucas) Carpenter. She was a homemaker, an avid reader and NASCAR fan. She loved cooking and being with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Leota Grimsley. She is survived by her husband, Gerald Christman, whom she married May 12, 1961; three daughters, Rhonda (Jeff) Smith of Morristown, Julie (Jimmy) Kyer of St. Clairsville, Lora "Buffy" (Ben) Fador of Bethesda; a son, David (Amy) Christman of Ashland; five grandchildren, T.J. (Amanda) Tharp, Amber Tharp (Kasey Williams), Jessie Kyer, Casie Kyer and Ashley McBride; and a great-grandson, Owen Williams. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Sunday) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, 291 Pike St., Quaker City, (740) 679-2691, where services will be 11 a.m. Monday (January 18, 2010) with Pastor Jeff Eschbaugh officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens.
