Mary Lou Cowgill, 85, of Cambridge, died Saturday (November 7, 2015) at Southeastern Med. She was born December 2, 1929 in Barnesville, daughter of the late Walter S. Skinner and Margaret (Gillespie) Skinner. Mrs. Cowgill was the secretary/treasurer of Cowgill's Plumbing for many years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Cambridge. She was very active with the church's "Check-In Charlie" program. She was a 1947 graduate of Barnesville High School and attended Muskingum College. Mrs. Cowgill was a member of many PTOs, Little Leagues, and Athletic Booster groups as her children grew up. She enjoyed her Sundays with her family and grandchildren. Her family lovingly called her "Peaches" because of her rosy peach cheeks. She was very loving, kind, and pleasant to all. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James B. "Jim" Cowgill, who died in 2005. They were married November 23, 1948. Also deceased is a brother, George; a grandson, Benny Cowgill; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Cowgill. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Steve (& Linda) Cowgill of New Concord, Chuck (& Carla) Cowgill of Cambridge, Ken (& Celeste) Cowgill of Cambridge, Bill (& Chris) Cowgill of Cambridge, Ben Cowgill of Kent, and Peg (& Dave) Wilcox of Zanesville; two brothers, Dr. Richard Skinner of The Villages FL and Harry Skinner of St. Clairsville; twelve grandchildren, Cory (& Lisa) of Cambridge, Megan (& Troy) of Lore City, Chuck (& Amy) of Centerville; Courtney (& Cory) of Washington Court House, Luke (& fiancée, Krista) of Eastlake, Casey (& Jeff) of Grove City, Nick of Cambridge, Morgan (& Austin) of Cambridge, Seth (& Tori) of Cambridge, Linsley (& fiancé, Dave Admundson) of Worthington, and Maggie of Zanesville; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Wednesday (November 11, 2015) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Max Beery officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: 1) The Benny Cowgill Foundation, PO Box 11, Kent OH 44240; or 2) Skinner Agricultural Scholarship, 160 Fairfield Drive, New Concord OH 43762.
