Mary Jane (Downar) Downerd

Mary Jane (Downar) Downerd, 89, passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022, at Altercare of Cambridge.

Mary Jane was born January 18, 1933, in Cambridge, a daughter of the late Norris and Mary (Gibson) Downar.

Mary Jane was a 1950 graduate of Cambridge High School and was an employee at the Cambridge State Hospital where she later retired. She was an avid traveler, having been to forty-eight states. Mary Jane enjoyed reading, watching the Ohio State Buckeyes Football Team, spending time with her family, and loved history. She was a member of the Guernsey County Historical Society, a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, SEORMC, and was an active member at the Guernsey County Senior Center.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Downerd, who passed away on April 28, 1981 and whom she married on October 25, 1957.

Mary Jane is survived by her two sons, Larry Downerd of Cambridge and Gary (Janie) Downerd of Cambridge, her five grandchildren, Aaron (Cindy) Downerd of Cambridge, Derek Downerd of Columbus, Brandon Downerd of Cambridge, Cyle (Erin) Downerd of Lore City, and Devin (Katie) Downerd of Cambridge. Also left to cherish her memory are her five great-grandchildren, Blake, Dalton, Kilee, Jenna, and Morgan Downerd, and her two great-great-grandchildren, Kale Clark and Riley Downerd.

Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022, from 11AM-1PM, with the service to immediately follow at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Cambridge with Pastor Jeff Bergeson officiating. Burial will be held at Northwood Cemetery.
