Mary E. Long, 97, of Salesville and formerly of Quaker City, died Tuesday (December 15, 2009) at the Autumn Health Care Center, Cambridge. She was born March 3, 1912 in Salesville, daughter of the late Henry ad Della Kehl. She married Samuel J. Long on November 24, 1937. Mrs. Long retired from Zane Trace Schools. She was also the former manager of the Broughtons Restaurant. Early in her life, she was a member of the Salesville Methodist Church and for fifty years she has been a dedicated member of the Quaker City United Methodist Church. Over the years, she served on the board, was a choir member and was an active member of the former United Methodist Women. She was an honorary member of the Leatherwood Senior Citizens. Mrs. Long loved music, books, poetry and all kinds of needlework. She cherished spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel J. Long, who died in 1989; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Izola Kehl; a son-in-law, Harry "Bunk" Johnson; and a beloved aunt, Freda Frakes. She is survived by a son, Francis "Bud" (& Margaret Ann) Long of Zanesville; two daughters, Linda Gay Johnson of Quaker City and Loretta (& Daryl) Wilson of Quaker City; eight grandchildren, Julie (& Bobb) Hillary of Geneva IL, Bradley (& Mary) Johnson of Houston TX, Janet (& Randy) Rankin of Cambridge, Alicia (& Mike) Scheffer of Cambridge, Gayle (& Mike) Delozier of Zanesville, Brenda (& Shawon) Glaub of Zanesville, Seth Wilson of Cambridge and Samuel Wilson of Cambridge; six great-grandchildren, McKinsey Rankin, Hayley Delozier, Nathan Delozier, Jules Brassfield, Mayson Brassfield and Tucker Brassfield; two step-great-grandchildren, Tori Scheffer and Alexis Glaub; a nephew, Donald Kehl of Salesville; two sisters-in-law, Mary Long of Sugarcreek and Geneva McKimmie of Canton; a special niece and great-nephew, Nadine (McKimmie) and Colin McBride of Columbus; special friends, Bill and Donna Armstrong of Quaker City; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and many friends & neighbors in Quaker City and Salesville. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City. Funeral services will be held on Friday (December 18, 2009) at 1 p.m. at the Quaker City United Methodist Church with Rev. Wilbur Bragg officiating. Burial will be at Salesville Cemetery.
