Mary Lea Evancho, 88, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (February 20, 2018) at Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born July 27, 1929 in Richwood WV, daughter of the late Haymond Sparks and Dessie (McElwain) Sparks. Mrs. Evancho retired from the former GTE, where she had been an operator and a supervisor. She was Baptist by faith. Her favorite activities included gardening, reading, and shopping. In her later years, she enjoyed gambling. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Evancho, who died January 11, 2011. They were married August 8, 1956. Also deceased are two brothers, Raymond Hamrick and Lloyd Sparks; and two sisters, Arthela Sparks and Mabel Sparks. She is survived by a daughter, Anita (& Steve) Colby of Newark; two sons, Tim (& Doree) Evancho of Cambridge and Paul D. (& Julie) Evancho of Boardman; ten grandchildren, Nicole Weber, Luke Evancho, Paula Buttry, Stephen Evancho, Michael Evancho, David Evancho, Justin Colby, Joseph Colby, Phillip Colby, and Matthew Colby; and six great-grandchildren, Peyton Weber, Elise Weber, Ella Buttry, Abel Buttry, Ava Evancho, and Emma Evancho. Visitation will be held Thursday (February 22, 2018) from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with Evang. Woody Biggs officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: 1) Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725; or 2) Guernsey Health Foundation, c/o Southeastern Med, 1341 Clark St, Cambridge OH 43725.
