Mary L. Mathews

Mary L. Mathews, 67, of Cambridge, died Monday (March 21, 2016) at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 24, 1948 in Guernsey County, daughter of the late John Kennedy and Louisa (Gibson) Kennedy. Mrs. Mathews retired from the Cambridge Developmental Center, where she had been a therapeutic program worker. She enjoyed working with her many friends at the Developmental Center. She had also worked at NCR for twenty-five years and at March Electric. She was a graduate of Cambridge High School and was a member of the Cambridge Ladies of the Moose. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who loved cooking, gardening, shopping, and watching soap operas. She cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She loved her pets dearly. She will be sorely missed by all. Mrs. Mathews was Methodist by faith. She is survived by her husband of thirty years, John Mathews; two sons, Bill (& Vanessa) Freeman of Cambridge and Zach (& Abbigale) Freeman of Kimbolton; a daughter, Melinda (& Rick) Dunn of Cleveland; two brothers, Clarence (& Janet) Kennedy of Byesville and Kenneth (& Ruth) Kennedy of Byesville; two sisters, Kathryn (& Ken) Hill of Zanesville and Doris (& Larry) Hughes of Cambridge; four grandchildren, Zach Freeman, Kendra Freeman, Ashley Hayes, and Josh Lanning; and several great-grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Guernsey for all of their support. No calling hours will be observed. A private memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
