Mary Margaret Phillips

Mary Margaret (Miller) Phillips, 54, of Cambridge, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy battle with Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS), Saturday (Sept. 12, 2009) at her residence. She was born May 22, 1955, in Rochester, Pa., daughter of Roderick Miller of Georgia and the late Alice (Geary) Miller. Mrs. Phillips was a former employee of the Cambridge State Hospital for 29 years where she was a TPW. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the VFW Post 2901 Ladies Auxiliary in Cambridge. She was preceded in death by a sister, Frances McKim, and a brother, Bill Miller. She leaves her husband, James Phillips Jr., whom she married June 29, 1974; a daughter, Amy (Arthur) Black of Cambridge; a son, Craig (Marlana) Phillips of Cambridge; five grandchildren, Austin, Adam and Alyssa Black, and C.J. and Brett Phillips; a brother, Sam (Joann) Miller; two sisters, Anna Jean (Randy) Dennis and Carol (Robert) Joiner, all of Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mary was married to the love of her life for 35 years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved camping, traveling, her dog, Toby, and spending time with her family. She had many friends with whom she also loved spending time. She was a wonderful, caring person who was always there to help those in need. She will be sadly missed by her friends and family. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
