Mary Belle Voorhies

October 29, 1937 — April 26, 2019

Mary Belle Voorhies, 81, of Old Washington, died Friday (April 26, 2019) at The Ohio State University East Hospital.

She was born October 29, 1937 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Albert R. McCune and Lura (Thompson) McCune.

Mrs. Voorhies had worked as a psychiatric aide at the former Cambridge State Hospital for many years.

She was a member of the Kennonsburg United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Voorhies was a country-western band member, who became a Christian in 1974 and then began performing gospel music. She was a member of The Living Word.

She loved camping at Seneca Lake.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Lee, Charlie, Jim, Raymond, and Jack; and three sisters, June, Mae, and Linda.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Voorhies, whom she married January 15, 1955; a son, Alan Voorhies of Cambridge (& Lolita Coots of Wooster); two daughters, Joyce (& Roger) Knicely of Columbia SC and LaTina Lynn (& Martin) Casarez of Omaha NE; a sister, Bessie Barrett of Cambridge; eight grandchildren, Matthew Voorhies, Lacy Voorhies, Takota Voorhies, Jaden Casarez, Morgan Casarez, Zander Casarez, Christopher Knicely, LeeAnne Knicely, and Lynette Knicely; and Nick & Kelly Starr who think of Mary & Don as grandparents.

Visitation will be held Saturday (May 4, 2019) from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 6 p.m.
