Maxine Melba Robinson

January 22, 1930 — May 29, 2016

Maxine Melba Robinson, 86, of Cambridge, died Sunday (May 29, 2016) at the home of her daughter in Athens. She was born January 22, 1930 in Stone Creek, daughter of the late William McVicker and Annie (Bunting) McVicker. Maxine graduated from Byesville High School and worked in industry for many years while helping her husband, Richard, support their family. The anchor of their lives was their membership with the First Presbyterian Church in Cambridge. For over sixty years, Maxine has faithfully served the mission of that church, serving as an elder and on key committees, including local Presbyterian churches merger plan. She was also chairperson of the Alpha Omega Circle. Maxine's generous spirit is widely known as she has shared her culinary skills with literally thousands of county residents preparing meals for groups as large as two hundred and individuals who are ill or homebound. Maxine also cooked for church functions, mercy meals, vacation bible schools and civic groups such as Rotary and the Guernsey Muskingum Electric Board of Directors. For twenty-five years, she was the sparkplug organizing the Church Women United's food booth for the Salt Fork Festival. In 1993, Presbyterian Women honored Maxine for her years of generosity in service to others. Later, in 2005, the Guernsey County Association of Churches bestowed its Heritage Award to Maxine. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. Robinson, who died in 1992; two brothers, Raymond and Leroy; and two sisters, Bertha and Moina. She is survived by two sons, Robert Robinson (& Carolyn Gandee) of Lowell and Ryan (& Carmen) Robinson of Newark; a daughter, Karen Robinson (& Thomas Vaughan) of Athens; four grandchildren, Matthew Robinson, Mark Robinson, Casey (& Michelle) Robinson, and Chase Robinson (& Hannah Hall); and two great-grandchildren, Callie Robinson and Alexander Robinson. Visitation will be held Thursday (June 2, 2016) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Keith Leach and Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge, 725 Steubenville Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725.
