Maxine Sway, 78, of Cambridge, died Thursday (August 20, 2009) at Autumn Healthcare, Cambridge. She was born October 7, 1930 in Cambridge, daughter of the late Frank Sway and Mary M. (Booth) Sway. Miss Sway had worked for Consolidated Telephone Company from 1949-1951. She then worked at Guernsey Memorial Hospital's X-ray Department from its opening in 1952 to 1961. She retired from General Telephone Company in 1988, where she worked as a communications service advisor since 1961. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cambridge, where she was an ordained Deacon. She was a 1948 graduate of Cambridge High School. Miss Sway was a member of the Pilot Club of Cambridge since 1956; a member of Wing 2 Auxiliary of Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center; a member of the Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association; a member of the Communications Workers of America; a member of the Old Cambridge Conservation Association; a member of the Arts & Crafts Foundation; and a member of AARP. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James Sway; and her favorite aunts, Sadie Booth Dean and Louella Booth Atchison. She leaves several cousins, Barbara Atchison Aker of Springfield, Sandra Dean (& Tony) Meo of Shaumberg IL, Jeff Aker of Springfield, Joseph Aker of Indianapolis IN, Anthony Dean Meo of Carpentersville IL, Kerry Ann Resendez of Carpentersville IL, Diane Everhart of Springfield, and Deborah Sanders of Springfield. Family and friends may call on Saturday (August 22, 2009) from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will follow at 12 p.m. with Rev. William Johnson officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to: (1) First Presbyterian Church, 725 Steubenville Avenue, Cambridge OH 43725; or (2) any charity of the donor's choice.
