Melba S. (Roe) Flood

March 29, 1927 — April 21, 2017

Melba S. (Roe) Flood, 90, of Batesville, died Friday (April 21, 2017) at Astoria Place of Barnesville. She was born March 29, 1927 in Kennonsburg, daughter of the late Robert Roe and Lela (Bates) Roe. Mrs. Flood was a cook for Barnesville Hospital for seven years. She also worked for the former Harps Restaurant in Barnesville. She was a loving housewife, mother, grandmother, and helped to take care of numerous people. Mrs. Flood was a member of the Quaker City Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Jimmie Cline Flood, who died August 2, 1997; three sisters, Margie Hodges, Myrtle Betts and Pauline Carpenter; three brothers, Charles E. Roe (who was killed in action during WW II), Carl Dean Roe and infant Grant Roe; a special cousin, Carol Sue McVicker; three sons-in law, James Goodhart, Robert "Bob" McGath and Robert Nicholes. She is survived by three daughters, Dixie Goodhart and Jim Parks of Summerfield, Debera McGath of Indian Camp and Janie (Jon) Warner of Quaker City; a sister; Mary Shephard Harris of Barnesville; seven grandchildren, Lisa Goodhart, Kim Goodhart, Jason Warner, Joni (Josh) Biedenbach, Robert Jeremy (April) Nicholes, Jonas Nicholes and Jolene (Justin) King; ten great-grandchildren, Kayla (Craig) Wehr, James Luyster, Jarod Nicholes, Jordon Nicholes, Jonathan Roe-Warner, Lexi Christman, Caleb Biedenbach, Kassi Biedenbach, Ivy King and Sadey King; three great-great grandchildren, Jillian Nicholes, Easton Wehr and Sydney Wehr; a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Roe of Kennonsburg; a brother-in-law, Robert Carpenter of West Lafayette; her church family; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday (April 24, 2017) from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be Tuesday (April 25, 2017) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kim McFarland officiating. Burial will follow at Batesville Cemetery.
