***SERVICES RESCHEDULED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER: Family and friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be held on Saturday (January 31, 2009) at 11 a.m.*** Melvin F. "Waddy" Getz, 87, of Freeport, passed away Monday (January 26, 2009) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born on June 19, 1921 in Akron, son of the late Seymour Getz and Sadie (O'Connor) Getz. Mr. Getz retired from Alsco Aluminum of Gnadenhutten, where he had worked for many years in the shipping department. His many enjoyments in life included sharing time with his family & friends, watching wildlife, and spending time outdoors on his farm and on his stocked lakes. Mr. Getz was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty (White) Getz, who passed away on April 4, 1993. They were married on July 24, 1950. Also deceased are two brothers and two sisters. He is survived by three daughters, Margie Grimes of Byesville, Jeanette (& Floyd) Krunich of Freeport and Laura Wayble of Antrim; a son, David Getz of Fresno CA; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Burial will be at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Washington Township. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the Antrim Volunteer Fire Department, c/o 17175 Sugartree Road, Kimbolton OH 43749.
