Melvin N. "Buck" Oberrath Jr., 71, of Salesville, died Thursday (Sept. 27, 2012) at his home. He was born Aug. 26, 1941, in Hudson, son of Melvin N. Oberrath Sr. and Marguerite Vahach. Mr. Oberrath was a retired former employee of Goodyear, Genie Corporation, and Longaberger Co. He loved being with his family, horses, building hot rods, hunting and boating. He was known as a very loving and caring person. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Judith Nader. He leaves his loving companion, Cheryl Dawson; a son, Melvin "Chip" N. (Michele) Oberrath III of Salesville; a daughter, Terri Ann (Michael) Mayne of Virginia; a brother, Jack (Bunny) Oberrath of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Lacritia, Gaven, Katie, Kimmy, Brett and Jesse; 14 great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, "Bear." Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (October 1, 2012) at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will follow at 8 p.m. with Pastor Bud Hines officiating.
