Michael Robert Shepard

August 25, 1952 — November 17, 2014

Michael R. Shepard, 62, of Cambridge, died Monday (November 17, 2014) at his home. Michael was a grumpy old man born to Warren and Beverly (Powers) Shepard on August 25, 1952 at Swan Hospital, Cambridge. He was a little rascal who terrorized the southside of Cambridge during his childhood. He was an accomplished artist, athlete, and hunter. The arrogant pain in the butt wanted to be known as "The Best Damn Turkey Hunter in Guernsey County", so we will honor that request. Mike Shepard has left a legacy with six children, Jenny, Jamie, Jarrod, and Jade Shepard; and one volunteer child, Jude Griffith. We can't forget his favorite child and love of his life, his dog Jordan. We don't know the reason behind the "J" theme, but then again Mike was always a little off. Mike was also loved by his adopted brother, Brian Knott. Michael was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers. It's a known fact that Mike and his brother, Kevin Patrick Shepard, could be heard all over Guernsey County cheering and jeering on Sundays during the Browns Game - wooooo! Mike had thirty years in law enforcement, which started with the Newcomerstown Police Department in 1974. He then transferred to the Guernsey County Sheriff's Department in 1980. Mike led the Southeastern Ohio Narcotics Team (SENT) for eight years, which proved to be a very successful organization. To say the least, Mike was a wonderful citizen to this community. So we send him off to his creator with the deepest love and respect for all the blessings he has given in selflessness. We love you, thank you, and will truly miss you. (Written and survived by his wife and loving soul mate, Columbia.) Visitation will be held Friday (November 21, 2014) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. Camo clothing is preferred, but not required.
