Olga "Ilene" Carpenter

Olga "Ilene" Carpenter, 79, of Quaker City, died Saturday (May 5, 2007) at home with her loved ones at her bedside. She was born January 24, 1928 in Quaker City, daughter of the late Charles C. Heaney and Irene (Hayes) Heaney. Mrs. Carpenter retired from Quaker City School, where she worked as head cook for thirty-three years. She was also an Avon Representative for fifty-five years. Mrs. Carpenter was a member of the Central Christian Church of Quaker City, as well as a member of the Good Samaritan Club for sixty years. Her favorite past-times included bingo, knitting and crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hoyt Carpenter (whom she married on August 30, 1952); and a son-in-law, Bruce K. Smith. She leaves two children, Timothy (Robin) Carpenter of Quaker City and Melody K. Smith of Salesville; four grandchildren, Doug (Heather) Smith of Old Washington, Staci (Aaron) Dearth of Kipling, Amanda (Fred) Umstott of Quaker City and Todd Carpenter of Quaker City; and five great-grandchildren, Dalton and Ethan Smith, Cody and Amelia Dearth, and Brysen Umstott. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be held on Wednesday (May 9, 2007) at 11 a.m. with Rev. Oscar Brown officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Quaker City. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., P.O. Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
