Orland L. Rhodes Sr.

Orland L. Rhodes Sr., 82, of Cambridge, died Sunday (August 23, 2020) at Astoria Place of Cambridge with Hospice.

He was born April 21, 1938 to Charles and Winnie Jane Rhodes in Gay WV.  He lived so far out in the hills they had to pipe the sunshine in.

He was employed by East Ohio Gas/Dominion Energy.  He enjoyed his job.  He also served ten years in the United States Army with two tours overseas.

He enjoyed metal detecting with his friends.  He played guitar and sang music with his wife for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.

Surviving Orland is his wife, Patricia Wharff Rhodes of sixty-two years, whom he married April 24, 1958; a son, Lee (Cindy) Rhodes of Cambridge; a daughter, Mary Jane (Bob Cooper) Rhodes of Cambridge; his grandchildren, Seth (Emily) Rhodes of Newark, Olivia Rhodes of Hilliard, and Stephanie (Adam) Conn of New Concord; his great-grandchildren, Teagan and Aidan Conn; a sister, Esther Holman of Lakeland FL; a special nephew, David Whited of Parkersburg WV; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Foxy, and cats, Gene, Jasper, and Ruthie.

Graveside services and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (August 27, 2020) at Mt. Hermon Cemetery, Cambridge, with Pastor Mark Slay officiating. Military graveside honors will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Guernsey County Dog Pound or the Guernsey County Cat Shelter.
