Otis L. "Sam" "Paps" Summers

Otis L. "Sam" "Paps" Summers, 82, of Cumberland passed away Monday (March 26, 2012) at his home. He was born January 30, 1930 in Kanawha County, WV and was the son of the late Rome H. and Edith G. (Rose) Summers. Mr. Summers was an employee for General Motors in Parma, Ohio for many years. He was protestant by faith and attended several local churches. He loved to golf, ride horses, ride his tractor, gardening and anything to do with the outdoors. He loved his family and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son Danny Lee Summers; three brothers, Ed, Jim and Dick Summers; two sisters, Wanda Castorph and Dessie Summers. He is survived by his wife, Frances (Harper) Summers whom he married September 9, 1949; two sons, Samuel C. (Jeri) Summers of Port Charlotte, Florida and Denny W. (Joy) Summers of Wadsworth, Ohio; three sisters, Sally Spencer and Peggy Carter both of Charleston, WV, Tressie Rife of Florida; four grandchildren, Shannon, Corey, Megan and Jake Summers. Calling hours will be Thursday (March 29th) from 4-8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge where services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday with Pastor Keith Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, 713 Forest Ave., Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
