Paul R. Mathews, 65, of North Salem, died Sunday (March 11, 2012) at his home. He was born February 14, 1947 in Zanesville, son of the late Fred Mathews and Thelma (Rowland) Mathews. Mr. Mathews was an equipment operator at NCR for many years. He also ran a bait shop in North Salem. He was a graduate of Cambridge High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Correll) Mathews; and a daughter-in-law, Valeria Mathews. He is survived by his companion, Sandra Gray; a son, Scott (& Shannon) Mathews of Columbus; his step-mother, Bea Mathews of Newcomerstown; four step-daughters, Lisa (& Todd) Davis of Newcomerstown, Carol (& Dave) Pitts of Sanger CA, Jamie Correll of Biloxi MS, and Deanna (& Paul) Murphy of Daphne AL; a step-son, Andy (& Mary) Correll of Yucca Valley CA; and a grandson, Garrett Mathews of Columbus. At Paul's request, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Graveside services and burial will be held at North Salem Cemetery on Saturday (March 17, 2012) at 1 p.m. with Pastor James C. Garrett officiating. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Paul's name to Hospice of Guernsey Inc., PO Box 1165, Cambridge OH 43725.
