Peter A. "Pete" Gerdau, 59, of New Concord, died Tuesday (October 2, 2018) at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus.

He was born December 16, 1958 in Cambridge, son of the late Henry Peter Gerdau and Betty K. (Whetstone) Newell.

A 1977 graduate of Cambridge High School, Mr. Gerdau had formerly worked as a corrections officer at the Noble County Correctional Institute. He later earned his B.S. in Business from Franklin University in 2005.

He was Baptist by faith.

He loved nature and music. His favorite time of the year was around Christmas time.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Zachary Gerdau, and by Lisa M. Jirles – mother to Zachary and Jeremy.

He is survived by his wife, Lois (Zook) Gerdau; three sons, Lucas Gerdau of Lore City, Tyler Gerdau of Old Washington, and Jeremy Gerdau (& Da'Nae Conner) of New Concord; two daughters, Lee Anne (& Derek) Sutterluety of Kipling and Andrea Gerdau of Kipling; three sisters, Kathy Kolan of Cambridge, Carmelita (& Clinton) McGaha of Cambridge, and Candy Gerdau of Cambridge; and eight grandchildren, Brandi, Seth, Blake, Katie, Maddy, Claire, Railee, and Lucy.

Visitation will be held Sunday (October 7, 2018) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held Monday (October 8, 2018) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Weaver officiating.

Burial will follow at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge.
