Ralph Wesley Campbell Sr., 88, of Cambridge, died Saturday (November 3, 2012) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center. He was born December 15, 1923 in Cambridge, son of the late Roy S. Campbell and Lola G. (Geary) Campbell. Mr. Campbell retired from the former Cambridge State Hospital, where he served for thirty-one years as a hospital aide. Mr. Campbell was a US Army veteran, having served in the 8th Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a former POW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise (Gibson) Campbell, who died July 27, 2009. They were married on March 17, 1946. Also deceased are four brothers, Wallace Campbell, Donald Campbell, Raymond Campbell, and John S. Campbell; a sister, Edna Atchison; a daughter, Donna Jean Slasor; and three grandchildren, Eric Campbell, Savannah Weidlich, and Jean Say. He is survived by four sons, Ralph W. "Butch" (Sherry) Campbell Jr., of Senecaville, William Richard "Dick" Campbell of Cumberland, David L. (Pat) Campbell of Dublin, and Jerald S. "Jerry" (Marci) Campbell of the home; a daughter, E. Ann Weidlich (& Amy Foley) of Cambridge; nine grandchildren, Vernon (Trish) Slasor of Obetz, Michael (Melanie) Campbell of Cambridge, Timothy (Dawn) Campbell of Reynoldsburg, Lillie Say of Cumberland, R.J. Weidlich of Cambridge, Katrin Weidlich of Cambridge, Matt (Heidi) Clendenning of Byesville, Brian (Jessie) Clendenning of Claysville, and Nikki Lawson of Dublin; sixteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Family and friends may call on Saturday (November 10, 2012) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Nancy Parsons officiating. Burial will be at Guernsey Memory Gardens, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
