Ray Carpenter, 78, of Batesville, died Friday (June 14, 2013) at Southeastern Med. He was born Feb. 20, 1935, in Calais, son of the late Ottie and Goldie (Carpenter) Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter retired from the former Smith-Cyclops Corporation. He also has served on Batesville Village Council for more than 30 years. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lee and Woodrow Carpenter; and a sister, Eileen Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Grandi) Carpenter, whom he married Aug. 12, 1972; a brother, Bay (Maxine) Carpenter of Louisville; a twin sister, Ruth (Richard) Betts of Barnesville; special family, Mike and Dremmia Winland and Douglas, Patrick, Zachary and Carina Winland; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 18 from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carol Touvell officiating at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City. Burial will follow in Batesville Cemetery.
