Ray Edward McVicker, 75, of Quaker City, passed away Friday (June 11, 2010) at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, where he resided for the past 14 years. He was born July 24, 1934, in Noble County, son of the late Edward and Edith (Starr) McVicker. Mr. McVicker was a 1952 graduate of Old Washington High School. He worked as a dairy farmer, school bus driver, part-time postal carrier and eventually retired from road construction. He was a member of Quaker City Church of Christ, where he was a song leader. He was also a member of the Guernsey County Farm Bureau. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, farming and making homemade ice cream. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Carol Sue Rich McVicker on Sept. 6, 2008; and a brother, David S. McVicker in December 2009. He is survived by three daughters, Theresa (Michael) Williamson of Little Hocking, Patti (Mark) Hamlin of Edmond, Okla., and Lori (Denny) Welfle of Norwalk; a son, Matt (Nicki) McVicker of Centerberg; a sister, Alma Lea (Everett) Bates of Cambridge and a sister-in-law, Elsie McVicker of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Chance, Shelby, Elizabeth, Ashley, Shane, Riana and Cecelia; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, where services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday with Evangelist Flavil Miller officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Quaker City Church of Christ or the charity of your choice.
