Richard Giroux

Richard Robert (Rick) Giroux, age 85, of Cambridge, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2022, peacefully at SEORMC with his family by his side.

Rick was born in Springfield, Massachusetts on October 16, 1936, of the late George and Gladys Giroux.  He is survived by his son Richard D. Giroux, daughter Yvonne Giroux, daughter-in-law Caryn Giroux, grandsons Judd Birch, Levi Birch, Joshua Birch and seven great-grandsons.

Rick was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served overseas in Asia as an aerial photographer and was a member of the VFW Post 10539 Okeechobee, Florida. Rick's first position was associate professor of mathematics at the University of Virginia, before embarking on a 40-year career as a business consultant for multinational companies as a mathematician-statistician and advanced software design specialist.

He received a BS and MS in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and pursued a doctorate in mathematics from the University of South Africa, Pretoria.  He travelled extensively abroad, primarily in Europe, the Middle East and Africa for various special projects development.  Upon retirement, Rick was a long-term resident of Okeechobee, Florida, during which he authored the "IAmDarius" book series on interdimensional probabilities.

He enjoyed helping others, travelling, astronomy, reading, boating, vintage sports car racing and sunsets on Lake Okeechobee.  A private service will be held at a later date.
