Richard Eldon Kerr, 81, of Cambridge, passed away Friday (Aug. 1, 2014) at Select Specialty Hospital in Zanesville, following a two year illness. He was born June 11, 1933, in Winterset, son of the late Arthur Kerr and Illdreth (Reed) Kerr. Mr. Kerr retired after 40 years at Timken Roller Bearing, where he was a roller. Along with his wife, he enjoyed traveling and gardening, playing cards and family reunions. He was a member of the Clearfork Baptist Church, a member of the Point Pleasant Masonic Lodge 360 F&AM and the Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge. He was also a member of the Land of Lakes Airstream Club. Mr. Kerr was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, having served during the Korean War. He was a life member of Cambridge VFW Post 2091. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Kerr. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean (Warden) Kerr, whom he married on July 10, 1965; five sons, Donald (Melody) Calvert of Haines City, Fla., Mark (Elizabeth) Calvert of Denver, Colo., Richard Kerr of California, Tim Kerr of Colorado, and Dale Kerr of Freeport; five brothers, Vernon (Sue) Kerr of Navarre, Don Kerr of Byesville, Lloyd (Dee) Kerr of Dover, Gene (Erin) Kerr of Ocala, Fla., and Ken (Marsha) Kerr of Cambridge; two sisters, Phyllis Blake of Morningside, Md., and Juanita (Bob) Blake of Canal Winchester; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home in Cambridge. Funeral services will be Wednesday (August 6, 2014) at the funeral home at 1 p.m. with Pastor Craig Murray officiating. Entombment will take place at Northwood Cemetery in Cambridge with military rites conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
