Richard Reed Wharton

January 24, 1937 — August 22, 2006

Richard Reed Wharton, 69, of Stockport, passed away Tuesday (August 22, 2006) at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge. He was born January 24, 1937 in Cambridge, son of the late Fred Wharton and Osa (Grubbs) Wharton. Mr. Wharton retired from the former United Telephone Company. He was a member of Hubbard Lodge No. 220, F. & A.M.; a 32nd Degree Mason in the Valley of Cambridge, A.A.S.R.; a member of Aladdin Temple Shrine of Columbus and a member of the Morgan County Shrine Club. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gun collector. Mr. Wharton was a member of the NRA. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Europe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tom and Ralph; and two sisters, Mrs. Lora Severns and Mrs. Mary Larrick. He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Thalheim of El Cajon CA and Mrs. JoAn (Dave) Jacobs of Cambridge; a step-son, Jon Riley of Zanesville; numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Jody (& Ralph) Sarkiewicz, who was his caregiver; two sisters-in-law, Betty Wharton of Otsego and Eileen Wharton of Cambridge; many friends in the Stockport area; and his faithful companions, "Snuffy" and "Pet Me". According to his wishes, Richard was cremated through the services of Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date at the convenience of the family.
