Robert Caples, 77, of Old Washington, died Wednesday (October 3, 2012) at the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center. He was born December 31, 1934 in Cambridge, son of the late Don Caples Sr. and Freda (Milhoan) Caples. Mr. Caples began his career in 1962 with the Texaco Station, operating the station for thirty years. He also worked as a dragline operator for Marietta Coal and later Bannock Coal. He was a 1953 graduate of Old Washington High School, where he played basketball for the Cardinals. He loved going to auctions, taking care of his dogs, and raising farm animals. Mr. Caples was a member of the Old Washington Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ann (Sherrard) Caples, who died July 3, 2010. They were married on September 6, 1959. Also deceased is a son, R. Christopher Caples; and a brother, Don Caples Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy (& Doyce) Holt of Old Washington; a sister, Marjorie Lamphear of Surprise AZ; two grandchildren, Carrie (& Jesse) Nabholz of Conway AZ and Garrett (& Chelsea) Holt of Delaware; and two great-grandchildren, August Nabholz and Asher Nabholz. Family and friends may call on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Monday (October 8, 2012) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Merlin Wentworth officiating. Burial will be at Old Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Robert's name to one of the following organizations: 1) Meals on Wheels, 1022 Carlisle Ave, Cambridge OH 43725; or 2) Guernsey County Dog Pound, 62824 Bennett Ave, Cambridge OH 43725.
