Robert "Bob" George Edwards, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2024, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 74. Born on August 9, 1950, in Zanesville, Ohio, to Louis and Norma (Potts) Edwards, Bob grew up in a lively household alongside his siblings. He carried the spirit of family and camaraderie throughout his life.
Bob was a proud graduate of Cambridge High School, class of 1968, and shortly thereafter, he answered the call of duty by enlisting in the United States Army. Serving his country from 1970 to 1974, Bob developed a profound sense of discipline and commitment, which he later applied to his career in law enforcement. Before and after his Military Service, Bob was a parts man for Superior Auto. Upon returning to civilian life, he joined the Cambridge Police Department, where he dedicated 25 years of service as a respected Detective. After his retirement in 1999, Bob continued to contribute to his community as a Probation Officer at the Cambridge Municipal Court.
On November 8, 1969, Bob married his beloved wife, Karen (Callihan) Edwards. Their union was blessed with a son, Mark Edwards of Cambridge, and a daughter, Tracie (Robert St. Clair) Edwards, also of Cambridge. Bob's role as a grandfather to Hannah, Kolton St. Clair, and Braelyn Edwards was one of his greatest joys. He took immense pride in his family, providing them with a foundation of love and support. Bob's family circle included his cherished dogs, Kage and Miley, who were constant companions and recipients of his affection.
Bob was known for his warm and engaging personality, which made him a friend to many. His passion for life was evident in his daily routine, which often included going out to dinner with Karen, visiting with friends, and enjoying breakfast gatherings with former co-workers. He had a knack for storytelling and could light up a room with his presence. Bob was very handy and considered a jack of all trades. He was an avid Cambridge Police memorabilia collector.
An active member of the Eagles, Bob found fellowship and purpose in being part of an organization that valued community and service. His friendly demeanor, loving nature, and passionate spirit made him a beloved figure, not only within his family but also throughout the broader community he served so faithfully.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack Edwards, and sisters Judy Bowman, Delores Harbin, and April Enochs, Bob's memory will be treasured by those he leaves behind. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
Bob's life was a testament to the impact one person can have on the world around them. His unwavering commitment to his family, career, and community set a standard for all who knew him. As we bid farewell to Robert "Bob" George Edwards, we celebrate a life well-lived—a life full of laughter, service, and love.
A final salute to a dedicated veteran, a salute to a trusted detective, and a salute to a family man who gave his all—Bob will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His stories will be retold, his values passed down, and his love felt forever in the hearts of those he cherished.
