Robert L. Hartman

Robert L. Hartman, 94, of Pickerington, died Thursday (January 16, 2014) at Mt. Carmel East, Columbus. He was born March 23, 1919 in Columbus, son of the late Ralph Hartman and Nancy (Polling) Hartman. Mr. Hartman was the owner of Eagle Oil Distributing. He was a life member of VFW Post 3441 Westway Post of Columbus. He was a 1952 graduate of Franklin University. Mr. Hartman was a US Army veteran, having served during WWII. He was a former P.O.W. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie E. (Shugert) Hartman, who died July 21, 2009. He is survived by two nephews, Tom Weiss and Michael Weiss both of Minnesota; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces & great-great-nephews. Visitation will be held Saturday (January 18, 2014) from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. Burial will be at Old Washington Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council. As an expression of sympathy, the family asks that memorial contributions in Robert's name be made to any veterans' organization of one's choosing.
