Robert "Bob" Lewis VanDyne Jr., 71, of Cambridge, passed away Wednesday (February 24, 2010) at the Cambridge Health & Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his family. He lost his long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born July 29, 1938 in Guernsey County, son of the late Robert VanDyne Sr. and Mabel B. (Allison) VanDyne. He married Dixie (Stover) on December 20, 1958. Mr. VanDyne was a service manager and car salesman in the automotive industry for many years. He had worked at Bruney LaMarca, Whitesides and Clewell Auto. He was also an employee of the Guernsey County Health Department, where he maintained the lawns for the department. He attended Stop Nine Church of Christ, First Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Cambridge High School. Mr. VanDyne was a US Marine Corps veteran. He cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed working in the yard, listening to gospel music and woodworking crafts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy VanDyne. Bob will be greatly missed by his wife of fifty-one years, Dixie VanDyne; his children, Kim Markley, Robbie (& Latrica) VanDyne, Lisa Mead, Julie Black and Stacy VanDyne all of Cambridge; two brothers, John Thomas (& Joyce) VanDyne Sr. of Cambridge and James A. (& Claudette) VanDyne Sr. of Pataskala; a sister, Nancy (& Glenn) Dodd of Winterset; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Family and friends may call on Saturday (February 27, 2010) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will follow at 2 p.m. with Evang. Mark Beros officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military graveside services conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
