Robert Mason, 86, of Quaker City, died Tuesday (February 10, 2015) at his home. He was born May 27, 1928 in West Virginia, son of the late Perman H. Mason and Grace O. (Fulton) Mason Hursey. Mr. Mason retired from the BP Oil Company, where he had worked as a truck driver. He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Mason was a US Army veteran, having served during WWII. He was a life member of the VFW Post 1079 of Elyria and a member of the American Legion Post 84. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Frank S. Hursey; an infant daughter, Valerie Mason; two brothers, Glen Mason and James Mason; and two sisters, Aurelia Seevers and Betty Rice. He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Pletcher) Mason, whom he married July 3, 1977; a son, Delmar Shuster of Parma; two daughters, Vicky (& John) Fletcher of Gainesville GA and Susan (& Douglas) Stamper of Sheffield; two brothers, Kenneth (& Louise) Mason of Senecaville and Richard (& Vicki) Mason of Kansas City KS; three sisters, Shirley (& Ralph) Lester of Cleveland TN, Sue (& Pete) Blazvick of Cambridge, and Delores (& Dave) Decker of Strasburg; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City. Funeral services will be held Friday (February 13, 2015) at 1 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Quaker City, with Pastor Bud Hines officiating. Burial will be at Friends Cemetery, Quaker City, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
