Robert E. Matej

The Rev. Robert Edward Matej died Friday (May 20, 2016) at his home. He was born Jan. 27, 1937, in Jessup, Pa., to George and Emilia (Marsala) Matej. He attended Penn State studying engineering. At Concordia Seminary, he prepared for the ministry of God's Word. He served SELC District congregations in Hazleton, Pa., Stamford, Conn., Lakewood and Massillon. Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carol (Hahn); a daughter, Lara Krecic (Roger); a son, Kurt (Bridget); grandchildren, Andrew and Shane Cecil (Mary), Niki and Alex White (Kristen), Alec and Kolin Matej and Rachael and Taylor Krecic (Karissa); and also many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, -nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Emy; his parents; brothers, Andrew, Gary and George; and sisters, Ludmila and Pauline. A memorial service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Parkersburg, W.Va. "Be faithful unto death and I will give thee a Crown of Life."
